Campbell-Mohn, Breen and Futrell's Hornbook on Environmental Law: From Resources to Recovery
Published in Hardcover by West Wadsworth (01 January, 2001)
Average review score:

A Landmark BookThe history of environmental law in this country is one of media by media legislation where pollution is chased from air to water to land rather than cleaned-up. In this book Celia Campbell-Mohn et.al. revolutionizes the way in which environmental law is organized and analyzed. Instead of breaking the environment into sectors as resources (species, minerals) and sinks for pollution (air, land, water, groundwater) she creates a new approach, the Resources To Recovery model, which divides the human interfaces with nature into sectors (extraction, manufacture and disposal) and treats nature comprehensivly within each interface. This book is totally unlike any other effort to understand and organize our legal relationship to the environment and it deserves attention. If you have time to read but one book in the area of environmental law and policy this year, this should be it......

Carved Paper: The Art of the Japanese Stencil
Published in Hardcover by Weatherhill (October, 2000)
Average review score:

An excellent guide to world of dying kimonoIf you are interested in the general process of dying kimono, and wondered how they produced the beautiful designs this book is for you. Stencils were created to lay down repetitive designs on long strips of fabric. This book traces how this craft became an art form on its own. Gorgeous reproductions complete the understanding of how this tool became as collectible and worthy of study similar to wood block prints. An end chapter expands on how this product of the textile process affected Americans personally and artistically. A must have for any textile fan!

The Case of the Gilded Lily
Published in Paperback by Ballantine Books (September, 1985)
Average review score:

Twists in another case with Perry MasonThis story is an excellent story inline with all the others I've read by Erle Stanly Gardner.
This story like all the others in the Perry Mason series has a series of different twists.
What makes this story so good like all the other ones is that your getting nearly about 3/4s of the way through and you can see that unless something goes drastically wrong for the prosecution then the defendant is going to get the electric chair. But in true Erle Stanley Gardner fashion Perry Mason the defense lawyer pulls the defendant out of the spot that he's in and in doing so he gets his professionalism questioned including accusations of tampering with evidence.
In conclusion This is an excellent book by Erle Stanley Gardner and like others in this series it has the twists and other odd things that happen.

Cassidy's Secret
Published in Library Binding by Bt Bound (October, 1999)
Average review score:

A GREAT Book!Cassidy's Secret is an excellent book. I like Cassidy a lot, and I think it was so brave of her to stand up for Pizazz. It must have been such a hard situation for her. The poor girl was trapped between either running her horse and getting plenty of money so that she could keep her horses, or hurting the other horse that was running. What would you do? I loved this book. It was sad happy, and even had some suspence. I definetly reccomend this well-written book!

CB: a life of Sir Henry Campbell-Bannerman
Published in Unknown Binding by Constable ()
Average review score:

Fascinating biographySir Henry Campbell-Bannerman was born in 1836 near Glasgow, entered Parliament in 1868, became Prime Minister in 1905, led the Liberal Party to its stunning victory in 1906, and died April 22, 1908, having resigned as Prime Minister on April 3 of that year and been succeeded by Asquith. After reading this book it might be wise to read Roy Jenkins' superb biography of Asquith. While I did not think this was as exciting a book as Jenkins' biography of Asquith, that is due only to the times that each was Prime Minister--Asquith's time was far more momentous. But I enjoyed this book thoroughly. One cannot but help admiring Campbell-Bannerman, even he was not a very hard worker. He customarily spent six weeks each fall at Marienbad. He was rather against the Boer War, and when he came to power he made peace with Botha and Smuts, to Lord Milner's disgust. The book has an excellent bibliography, listing books which I would like to read. When I read this book I noted from said bibliography three books to read: Arthur James Balfour, by Blanche Dugdale; 25 Years, by Viscount Grey, and Haldane, 1856-1915, by Maj. Gen. Sir Frederick Maurice. But since I have only read 25 Years. The other two remain on my to be read list.

The Chick That Wouldn't Hatch
Published in Paperback by Green Light Readers (09 August, 1999)
Average review score:

Fun, simple storyMy 3 year-old picked out this book and requested that we read it many, many times. After about twenty readings, I realized the appeal of the stress-free action. The egg rolls and rolls, but in time there is a natural resolution to the problem. There is no bad guy. The egg, like the gingerbread boy, keeps going, but in the end you have a fuzzy chick. As it turns out, my 6 year old is exactly at this reading level. After this book, she felt confident enough to tackle the Little Bear book. The Chick That Wouldn't Hatch was a big hit at our house.

Chicken Shack (A Letty Campbell Mystery)
Published in Paperback by Trafalgar Square (October, 2000)
Average review score:

Great fun!Letty Campbell, a chicken farmer in England, sells part of her property to a woman from Texas who's establishing a health resort. Letty's mother, newly engaged, has been receiving mysterious phone calls, which may be from her husband-to-be's estranged daughter. When Letty's car is driven off the road, she can't help but think she's targeted, but by whom? Is it connected to a local escaped convict, or to the health club next door? Letty would much rather spend time with her new girlfriend, than get involved in yet another mystery, but she finds that sometimes there's no choice. It's a thrilling and exciting mystery from an author who deserves more attention here in the U.S.

Christian Confessions: A Historical Introduction
Published in Paperback by Westminster John Knox Press (March, 1996)
Average review score:

An excellent historical introductionThis book is an incredible resource for both clergy and laity alike. Ted Campbell does an outstanding job in tackling a complex subject. This book portrays each of the major branches of the Christian Church fairly and evenly. The cross-references in the book serve as a wonderful guide to studying each branch of Christianity seperately, or studying the differences and similarlities of each. This is a book that is difficult to put down once its been picked up.
